Denis Vieru's Judo Journey

Denis Vieru became well-known in the judo world in 2016. He won a gold medal at the 2016 European U23 Judo Championships. This was a big achievement for Moldova, as he was the first from his country to win this title since 2005.

Winning Medals and Awards

In 2019, Denis had a fantastic year, earning many medals. He won Moldova's first-ever gold medal at the Antalya Grand Prix. He also took home gold at the Baku Grand Slam. Another gold medal came from the Grand Slam Paris, where he beat a strong opponent, Vazha Margvelashvili.

Denis also won a gold medal at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples. At this event, he had the special honor of being the flag bearer for Moldova. Later that year, he added a bronze medal at the 2019 World Judo Championships.

Overcoming Challenges

After some of his 2019 competition results were temporarily paused, Denis faced a review. He and his team worked hard to show that he had not done anything wrong. They proved that there was no intention to break any rules. Because of this, his suspension was very short, only three months. He was able to keep his medals and his world ranking points. This showed his strong character and honesty.

Recent Successes

Denis continued his winning streak in the following years. In 2021, he won a gold medal at the 2021 Judo Grand Slam Abu Dhabi. The next year, he won another gold at the 2022 Judo Grand Prix Almada.
