Dennis J. Murray (born September 24, 1946) is an American school leader. He was the third President of Marist College. He served two times: first from 1979 to 2016, and then again from 2019 to 2021.

About Dennis J. Murray's Early Life
Dennis J. Murray was born in Los Angeles, California. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from California State University, Long Beach. Later, he received his master's degree and a Ph.D. (a very high academic degree) in public administration from the University of Southern California.
Dennis J. Murray's Career in Education
Murray started his career helping universities. He worked at California State University, Long Beach, as a Director and Executive Assistant to the President.
Later, he taught at the USC School of International and Public Affairs. He also served as Vice President for Development at Whittier College. At Whittier, he helped raise $8 million for the college. This included money for a new student activities center.
Leading Marist College
In 1979, Dennis Murray became the third President of Marist College. He led the college for 37 years, which is a very long time! In 2015, he decided to step down from his role in 2016. After that, he became the college's President Emeritus, which means he holds an honorary title as a former president.
During his time as president, Marist College grew a lot. The number of students more than doubled. The college also added 16 new study programs. Many new buildings for classes and student homes were built. The campus itself grew to cover 180 acres (about 0.73 square kilometers).
After Murray retired in 2016, David N. Yellen became the new president. However, Yellen resigned three years later. So, Dennis Murray returned to Marist College as an interim president. This means he led the college temporarily.
His second time as president was from June 2019 to October 2021. After that, Kevin Weinman became the fifth President of Marist College.
