Denton is a small, quiet place in the southern part of Johnson County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's what's called an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's managed by the county.

Where is Denton?

Denton is located in the U.S. state of Missouri. You can find it a few miles northwest of a town called Chilhowee. A road named Missouri Route 2 passes right by the community. Also, a railway line, once used by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, runs along the south side of Denton.

A Look at Denton's Past

Denton was officially started in the year 1905. It was named after someone who worked for the railroad, which was very important for transportation back then. In the same year, a post office was opened in Denton, helping people send and receive mail. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1954.
