The Denver Botanic Garden offers many outdoor exhibits that showcase plants from the Western United States, especially the Rocky Mountain region.

The Denver Botanic Gardens is a special place in Denver, Colorado. It is a public botanical garden, which means it's a park where many different kinds of plants are grown for people to learn about and enjoy.

This amazing garden is about 23 acres big. That's like 17 football fields! It has a large glass building called a conservatory, many different themed gardens, and an outdoor stage called an amphitheater. During the summer, you can even catch concerts there.

Where to Find the Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens has three cool locations. Each one offers a different experience with plants and nature.

York Street Location

The main garden is at York Street in central Denver. This is where you'll find the most formal and well-known gardens. It's a beautiful place to explore many types of plants.

Chatfield Farms

Another spot is Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. This area is close to Chatfield State Park. Here, you can see natural meadows and riverside areas. There's also a historic farm and old homestead to visit.

Mount Goliath

The third location is Mt. Goliath. It's found on the way to Mount Evans. This high-altitude garden has alpine wildflowers. You can see these unique plants along hiking trails.

The land where the Denver Botanic Gardens now stands, along with nearby parks, was once a cemetery. Most of the graves were moved a long time ago. However, sometimes during park work, old graves are still found.

Exploring the Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens is home to North America's biggest collection of plants. These plants come from cold places all over the world. There are also seven different gardens that mainly show plants from Colorado and nearby states.

Dryland Mesa

In 1986, the Gardens created the world's first Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. Xeriscape is a way of gardening that uses very little water. Two years later, it was renamed Dryland Mesa. This garden shows off plants that can live with little water. Many come from dry parts of the Western United States and the Mediterranean region.

Japanese Garden

The Japanese Garden is a peaceful place called Shofu-en. This means "Garden of Wind and Pines." It was designed by Koichi Kawana with Kai Kwahara. It's a calm spot to enjoy traditional Japanese garden design.

Green Roof

The York Street location also has Denver's first public green roof. A green roof is covered with plants. It helps the building stay cool and is good for the environment.

Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory

The Gardens also have a special building called the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory. It was the first conservatory in America made entirely of concrete and Plexiglas. The design was smart! It made sure that water from condensation wouldn't drip on visitors. This amazing building was recognized as a landmark in 1973.
