Derek Roszell Bryant was a professional baseball player from the United States. He was born on October 9, 1951. Derek played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Oakland Athletics. He played 39 games in 1979, mostly as an outfielder. Before playing professionally, he went to Henry Clay High School and the University of Kentucky.

Early Career and MLB Debut
Derek Bryant played baseball for the Oakland Athletics organization for his entire career. This was from 1973 until 1981. He made it to the major leagues for one season. In 1979, he played 39 games for the Oakland Athletics. During that season, he had a batting average of .179. He also hit three extra-base hits in 108 times at bat.
After His Playing Days
After his time as a player, Derek Bryant became a manager. He has managed baseball teams in the Mexican League. He started managing there in 1988. He has worked with several teams over the years.
Managing in Mexico
Derek Bryant managed the Sultanes de Monterrey team many times. He was their manager in 1988, and then from 1995 to 1998. He also managed them again from 2001 to 2002. In 1999, he managed a team called the High Desert Mavericks. This team was part of the Arizona Diamondbacks' minor league system.
After his last time with Monterrey, he managed other teams. These included the Acereros de Monclova in 2003. He also managed the Saraperos de Saltillo from 2004 to 2007, and again in 2012. He led the Vaqueros Laguna from 2009 to 2010. His last known managing role was with the Olmecas de Tabasco in 2011.
