University of Kentucky facts for kids
The University of Kentucky, often called UK, is a public university located in Lexington, Kentucky. It's a place where both male and female students learn together. The university was started in 1865 and currently has about 27,209 students. The president of the university right now is Dr. Eli Capilouto.
Sports Teams: The Wildcats
The sports teams at the University of Kentucky are known as the Wildcats. They have 19 different teams that play in various sports. Most of these teams compete in a big group called the Southeastern Conference. However, the men's soccer team plays in Conference USA, and the rifle team competes in the Great America Rifle Conference.
In the 2014-15 basketball season, the men's team was incredibly good. They won all 31 of their regular season games and started the season with 38 wins and no losses! They made it all the way to the "Final Four" part of the championship. Even though they played very well, they lost to Wisconsin in that game, finishing their amazing season with 38 wins and only 1 loss.
