Derek Warfield (born 15 September 1943) is a famous Irish singer and songwriter. He is also a historian. For many years, he was a member of a well-known Irish music group called The Wolfe Tones.

About Derek Warfield
Derek Warfield was born in Inchicore, a part of Dublin, Ireland. He went to school at Synge Street CBS. Before becoming a musician, he learned how to be a tailor. Today, he lives in Kilcock, which is in County Kildare.
Derek Warfield is a cousin of Sinn Féin Senator Fintan Warfield.
His Music Career
Derek Warfield is a singer, songwriter, and plays the mandolin. He helped start The Wolfe Tones band. He played with them for almost 37 years. During that time, he wrote and recorded over 60 songs. He was on every album the band made, from their first one in 1965, The Foggy Dew, to 25th Anniversary in 1989.
Solo Albums and Books
After his time with The Wolfe Tones, Derek Warfield released his own music. His first solo album, Legacy, came out in 1995. He then released other albums like Liberte' '98, Sons of Erin, Take Me Home To Mayo, and Clear The Way.
Derek Warfield also made a video called Legacy. He has written two books: The Songs and Ballads of 1798 and The Irish Songster of the American Civil War.
Music and History
Derek Warfield loves history, especially the American Civil War. He has performed his songs at special events and memorials for the Civil War. He often performs with his band, The Sons of Erin, at places like Gettysburg and Sharpsburg. His 2002 album, Clear the Way, is part of his series about Irish songs from the Civil War.
One of his songs, "Take Me Home To Mayo", is a duet with Irish American singer Andy Cooney. This song is also the title of another album he released in 2002. In March 2006, he released his ninth solo album, which had 36 Irish songs.
In 2012, Derek Warfield released an album called Bonnie Blue Flag. This album tells the stories of Irish people who fought in the American Civil War.
Today, Derek Warfield tours with his new band, called Derek Warfield and The Young Wolfe Tones.
Books Published
Derek Warfield has also been involved in publishing books. He published a two-volume biography about Robert Emmet, a famous Irish rebel. He also worked with Raymond Daly to publish a book called Celtic and Ireland in Song and Story. This book shares the lyrics and histories of many Irish songs.
