Derek Warfield grew up in Inchicore, a part of Dublin, Ireland. He went to school at Synge Street CBS. Before he became a musician, he trained to be a tailor. Today, he lives in Kilcock, County Kildare.

Music Career Highlights

Derek Warfield is well-known for his singing and playing the mandolin. He helped start The Wolfe Tones and performed with them for almost 37 years. During that time, he wrote and recorded more than 60 songs. He was part of every album the band made, from their first one, The Foggy Dew in 1965, to 25th Anniversary in 1989.

After his time with The Wolfe Tones, Derek Warfield started releasing his own music. His first solo album, Legacy, came out in 1995. He then released other albums like Liberte' '98, Sons of Erin, Take Me Home To Mayo, and Clear The Way.

Derek Warfield has also created a video called Legacy. He has written two books: The Songs and Ballads of 1798 and The Irish Songster of the American Civil War. These books show his interest in history and traditional Irish songs.

Music and History

Derek Warfield often performs his music at events about the American Civil War. He has played at famous historical places like Gettysburg and Sharpsburg with his band, The Sons of Erin. His 2002 album, Clear the Way, is part of his series of Irish songs about the Civil War.

He also recorded the song "Take Me Home To Mayo" as a duet with Irish American singer Andy Cooney. This song is a tribute to Michael Gaughan and is the title track of another album released in 2002.

In 2005, Warfield released a song called "Celtic Celtic (That's the Team for Me)". This song was made for the Celtic F.C. football club and is on his album Songs for the Bhoys.

In March 2006, he released his ninth solo album. It was a double CD with 36 Irish songs. He also released an album in 2012 about Irish people who fought in the American Civil War.
