Deron Washington (born December 12, 1985) is an American basketball player. He last played for Mitteldeutscher in Germany. Deron also played college basketball for the Virginia Tech Hokies men's basketball team. He was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 2008 NBA draft.
Deron went to National Christian Academy in Maryland. His dad, Lionel Washington, was a professional football player. His mom, Denise Washington, played college basketball too.

High School Basketball Years
Deron Washington spent two years at Notre Dame Academy. Then he moved to National Christian Academy. In his junior year, he scored about 11.5 points per game. He also made 65 three-point shots. He missed nine games that year because of a broken wrist.
After his junior year, experts ranked Deron as one of the top players in the country. He was seen as a strong wing forward.
In his senior year, Deron averaged 16.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. He also had three assists and three blocks per game. After high school, he decided to play for Virginia Tech. The team had not been to the NCAA tournament in a long time.
College Basketball Career
Deron played college basketball for the Virginia Tech Hokies from 2004 to 2008.
Freshman Season (2004-2005)
Deron started 30 games in his first year. He was second on the team in shooting percentage. He was also fourth in rebounds, getting 4.6 per game. He scored about 7.9 points per game. He also added 1.0 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game.
The Hokies finished with 16 wins and 14 losses. They played in the National Invitational Tournament. They won their first game against Temple. But they lost to Memphis in the second round.
Sophomore Season (2005-2006)
In his second year, Deron became the team's fourth-best scorer. He averaged 10.5 points per game. He was also the third-best rebounder, with 5.0 rebounds per game.
His best game was against Mount Saint Mary's University. He scored 24 points, making eight out of ten shots. He also had ten rebounds, five blocks, and three steals in that game.
Virginia Tech finished this season with 14 wins and 16 losses. They did not play in any post-season tournaments.
Junior Season (2006-2007)
In his third year, Deron was the second-highest scorer on the team. He averaged 12.0 points per game. He also got 6.5 rebounds per game. He averaged 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.
The Hokies had a great season with 22 wins and 12 losses. They earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. This was their first time in the tournament since 1996.
Virginia Tech was a #5 seed. They played against Illinois in the first round. The Hokies were losing by 13 points with eight minutes left. But they came back to win 54–52. Deron made a key shot with 46 seconds left. Virginia Tech then lost to Southern Illinois in the second round.
Senior Season (2007-2008)
In his final college year, Deron had his best season. He averaged 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. The Hokies finished with 22 wins and 14 losses.
Virginia Tech played in the NIT again. They reached the quarterfinals. They beat Morgan State and UAB. But they lost to Ole Miss in the quarterfinals.
Professional Basketball Career
Deron Washington was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 2008 NBA draft. He was the 59th player picked overall.
Early Professional Years
In 2008, Deron played in Israel for Hapoel Holon. His team won the Israeli Basketball State Cup.
In 2009, he played for the Detroit Pistons in the Summer League. He was trying to earn a spot on their team. The Pistons signed him to a two-year contract in August 2009. However, they later decided to release him in October 2009.
After that, he was drafted by the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the NBA D-League. In December 2009, he was traded to the Tulsa 66ers.
Deron also played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2010 NBA Summer League. He was nicknamed "Smash" during the 2012 Orlando Pro Summer League.
Playing in Europe
On January 9, 2015, Deron signed with Bnei Herzliya in Israel. On July 17, 2015, he moved to Italy to play for Vanoli Cremona.
For the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, he played for Auxilium Torino in Italy. On February 18, 2018, Deron helped Fiat Torino win the Italian Cup. They beat Germani Basket Brescia 69–67 in the finals.
On July 19, 2018, Washington signed with another Italian team, Reyer Venezia. On December 17, 2019, he joined Pallacanestro Trieste. The 2019–20 season was stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Deron did not play for any team until the end of 2020.
On February 23, 2021, he signed with Mitteldeutscher in Germany.
