Derrick Obasohan started his basketball journey in high school. He then played college basketball before becoming a professional player. He also played for his country's national team.
Playing in College
Derrick went to Alief Elsik High School in Houston, Texas. After high school, he played college basketball for the University of Texas at Arlington. He was a top player there. He was even named to the First Team All-Southland Conference. This means he was one of the best players in his college league.
His Professional Career
After college, Derrick Obasohan became a professional basketball player. He played for many teams in different countries.
Playing in Europe and Beyond
In 2010, Derrick signed with Trabzonspor in Turkey. He played there for the 2010–11 season. He scored about 11.7 points per game. The next year, in 2011, he moved to Spain. He joined Joventut for the 2011–12 season. He played 34 games and scored about 9.2 points per game.
In 2012, Derrick played a few games in Venezuela for the Cocodrilos de Caracas. He then moved to Argentina to play for Boca Juniors. Later that year, he returned to France. He signed with Cholet Basket for the rest of the 2012–13 season.
Helping Teams Move Up
In 2013, Derrick joined AS Monaco Basket in France. This team was in the third division at the time. He played with them for two seasons. Derrick helped Monaco move up to a higher league, the LNB Pro B. Then, he helped them move up again to the top league, the LNB Pro A. This shows how important he was to the team's success.
In 2015, he signed with Provence Basket in the LNB Pro B league. He played there until 2017.
Playing for His Country
