Derviş Eroğlu (born 7 March 1938) is a Turkish Cypriot politician. He served as the president of Northern Cyprus from 2010 to 2015. Before becoming president, he was the Prime Minister several times. He also led the National Unity Party twice.
He was Prime Minister for almost 17 years. This makes him the longest-serving Prime Minister in Northern Cyprus's history. He also holds the record for being a Member of Parliament for the longest time.

Derviş Eroğlu's Early Life and Education
Derviş Eroğlu was born in Famagusta in 1938. He went to Istanbul University to study medicine. He graduated in 1963. After that, he became a specialist doctor in urology, which is a field of medicine.
Derviş Eroğlu's Political Career

Eroğlu started his political journey in 1976. He became a member of the Assembly of the Republic. This was when Northern Cyprus was known as the Turkish Federated State of Northern Cyprus. From 1976 to 1977, he worked as the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports.
In November 1983, he became a member of the Constituent Assembly of Northern Cyprus. He was the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP). He served as Prime Minister in four different governments between 1985 and 1993. He was also Prime Minister again from 1996 until 2004. His party lost the election to the Republican Turkish Party led by Mehmet Ali Talat in 2004.
However, Eroğlu's UBP party won most of the seats in the election on 18 April 2009. Because of this, Eroğlu became Prime Minister once more.
On 21 November 2005, Eroğlu stepped down as the leader of the UBP. He said it was time for younger people to take charge. But he was re-elected as leader in November 2008.
Becoming President of Northern Cyprus
Derviş Eroğlu was elected President of Northern Cyprus on 18 April 2010. The United Nations (UN) does not officially recognize Northern Cyprus as an independent country. Because of this, the UN saw Derviş Eroğlu as the main negotiator for the Turkish Cypriot community. He worked to find solutions for the Republic of Cyprus.
In the 2015 general elections, he was defeated by Mustafa Akıncı. This meant his time as president came to an end.
