İrsen Küçük (born 1940 – died March 10, 2019) was an important Turkish Cypriot politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus from 2010 to 2013. He was also the nephew of Fazıl Küçük, who was the first vice-president of the Republic of Cyprus.

Early Life and Education

İrsen Küçük was born in Nicosia in 1940. He went to Ankara University and finished his studies in agriculture in 1966. After that, he started working for Turkey's State Hydraulic Engineering Bureau.

In 1969, he earned a master's degree in irrigation. From 1968 to 1973, he worked as an industrial engineer. Later, he started his own business in farming and raising animals.

Political Journey

Soon after, İrsen Küçük joined the National Unity Party (UBP). He was elected to represent Nicosia in the parliament in 1976 and 1981. This was a big step in his political career.

Early Government Roles

In July 1976, he became the Minister of Agriculture. He held this job in several governments until 1981. Then, he was the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy from 1981 to 1982. After that, he served as the Minister of Health, Social Affairs, and Labor from 1982 to 1983.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In 1983, he was chosen to run in the first elections for the Assembly of the Republic. He was elected in 1985 and again in 1993 for Nicosia. During this time, he also led the National Unity Party in the Nicosia area.

After the elections in 1998, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. He kept this role until 2003. When his party lost the elections in 2003, he left the government. In 2004, he became the Secretary General of the UBP.

Time as Prime Minister

In 2009, the National Unity Party won the elections again. After Derviş Eroğlu became president, İrsen Küçük was chosen to lead the UBP on May 9, 2010. A week later, on May 17, 2010, he officially became the Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus.

He served as Prime Minister until June 5, 2013. On that day, he resigned after the Assembly voted that they no longer had confidence in his leadership. This is called a "vote of no confidence." On June 13, 2013, Sibel Siber took over as Prime Minister.

İrsen Küçük passed away on March 10, 2019, at the age of 79.
