Desmond Tremaine Mason (born October 11, 1977) is an American artist and former professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard and small forward in the NBA. Mason is also a talented artist who works with different art materials. Today, he shares his basketball knowledge as an NBA analyst and sports radio co-host in Oklahoma City.
Desmond Mason's Basketball Journey
Playing for the Seattle SuperSonics (2000–2003)
Desmond Mason was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2000 NBA draft. He was the 17th player picked overall. In 2001, he made history for the SuperSonics. He became the first player from their team to win the exciting NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He also placed second in the same contest in 2003.
Time with the Milwaukee Bucks (2003–2005)
In 2003, Desmond Mason was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. He moved there along with another player, Gary Payton. In return, the SuperSonics received Ray Allen and Ronald Murray. Mason improved his game while playing for the Bucks. On November 30, 2004, he scored 32 points in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Joining the New Orleans Hornets (2005–2007)
Desmond Mason was traded again on October 26, 2005. This time, he went to the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets also received a future draft pick in the trade. On January 6, 2007, Mason scored 28 points in a game for the Hornets.
Back with the Milwaukee Bucks (2007–2008)
After two seasons away, Mason returned to the Milwaukee Bucks. He signed a new contract with them on July 23, 2007. Mason was happy to be back playing for the Bucks.
Playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2008–2009)
On August 13, 2008, Mason was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This team used to be the Seattle SuperSonics. This trade involved three teams and six players.
Short Time with the Sacramento Kings (2009)
Mason signed with the Sacramento Kings on September 17, 2009. He played in only five games for them. His last NBA game was on November 4, 2009.
Desmond Mason's Art Career
Desmond Mason studied art in college. He even thought about becoming an art teacher. He uses many different art materials. These include oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolors, and ceramics.
In 2004, he started the Desmond Mason Art Show. This show helps raise money for different charities. His artwork has been shown in museums and galleries. One place was the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum.
People describe Mason's art as abstract expressionist. This means he paints based on his feelings. He once said, "I paint by emotion so everything I create is a piece of me." In 2021, Mason also helped create art murals in Milwaukee. These murals celebrated the Bucks' NBA championship win.

In February 2007, Mason created a fun hip-hop video. It was called We Dem Hornets. In the video, he gave an inspiring shout-out to his Hornets teammates. He said he wrote the song on the team bus. He wanted to make something fun for the team.
