Desmond Tremaine Mason, born on October 11, 1977, is an American artist and a former professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard and small forward during his career. Mason is also a talented artist who works with many different types of art. Today, he is an NBA analyst and a co-host for a sports radio show called The Franchise in Oklahoma City.

Desmond Mason's Basketball Journey
Playing for the Seattle SuperSonics (2000–2003)
Desmond Mason was chosen by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2000 NBA draft. He was the 17th player picked overall from Oklahoma State University. In 2001, he made history for the SuperSonics. He became the first player from their team to win the exciting NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He also did very well in the 2003 contest, finishing in second place.
Time with the Milwaukee Bucks (2003–2005)
In 2003, Mason was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. He moved there along with another player, Gary Payton. In return, the SuperSonics received Ray Allen and Ronald Murray. While Mason improved his game with the Bucks, many fans still missed Ray Allen. One fan even said, "Yeah, but man could he fly!" showing how exciting Mason was to watch. On November 30, 2004, Mason scored 32 points in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Playing for the New Orleans Hornets (2005–2007)
On October 26, 2005, Mason was traded again. This time, he went to the New Orleans Hornets. The Hornets also received a future draft pick in the deal. In exchange, the Bucks got Jamaal Magloire. On January 6, 2007, Mason had a great game, scoring 28 points for the Hornets.
Back with the Milwaukee Bucks (2007–2008)
After two seasons away, Mason returned to the Milwaukee Bucks on July 23, 2007. Even though he had been upset about being traded before, Mason was happy to be back playing for Milwaukee.
Joining the Oklahoma City Thunder (2008–2009)
On August 13, 2008, Mason was part of a big trade involving three teams and six players. He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This team was actually the relocated Seattle SuperSonics franchise.
Final Season with the Sacramento Kings (2009)
On September 17, 2009, Mason signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings. He played in only five games for them before being released. His last NBA game was on November 4, 2009, against the Atlanta Hawks.
Desmond Mason's Media Appearances
In February 2007, Desmond Mason created a fun hip-hop video called We Dem Hornets. In the video, he called out all the players on the 2006–07 Hornets team to inspire them. He explained that he wrote the song on the team bus and plane. The team really liked it, so they decided to make a video. Mason said it was "just for fun." He also noticed that the Hornets started winning more games after the video was shown!
In July 2018, Mason also appeared as a guest on a TV show called Below Deck Mediterranean. He was on a chartered yacht during an episode.
Desmond Mason's Artwork
Desmond Mason studied studio art in college. He even thought about becoming an art teacher. He creates art using many different materials, like oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolors, and ceramics. In 2004, he started the Desmond Mason Art Show. This show helps raise money for many different charities. His art has been shown in museums and galleries, including the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum.
Mason's art style is often called abstract expressionist. He once said in 2013, "I paint by emotion so everything I create is a piece of me to some extent." After the Bucks won the 2021 NBA Finals championship in 2021, Mason helped create a series of art murals in Milwaukee to celebrate.
