Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs (born August 8, 1993) is a talented Mohawk actress. She is known for her roles in popular TV shows and movies. Devery has received awards and nominations for her acting.
One of her most famous roles was in the movie Rhymes for Young Ghouls (2013). For this film, she was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress. Later, she gained more fame for her role in the TV series Reservation Dogs. She was nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in both 2023 and 2024 for this show.

Devery's Acting Journey
Devery Jacobs started her acting career in the late 2000s. She appeared in TV shows like The Dead Zone (2007) and Assassin's Creed: Lineage (2009). These early roles helped her gain experience in the industry.
In 2013, Devery played the main character, Aila, in the film Rhymes for Young Ghouls. This movie was shown for the first time at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Her performance earned her a nomination for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actress. The next year, she was in a music video for the group A Tribe Called Red.
Big Roles in TV Shows
In 2019, Devery joined the cast of American Gods for its second season. She played a young college student named Sam Black Crow. The author of the books, Neil Gaiman, really wanted her for the part.
Also in 2019, Devery had a recurring role in the Netflix series The Order. She played Lilith Bathory in the first two seasons.
Since 2021, Devery has been a main star in the highly praised TV series Reservation Dogs. This show is about a group of Indigenous teenagers living on a reservation in Oklahoma. Her role as Elora Danan earned her a nomination for a Critics' Choice Television Award in 2023.
Behind the Scenes Work
Devery also started working behind the scenes on Reservation Dogs. In season 2, she joined the show's team of writers. For season 3, she even directed an episode called 'Wahoo!'. This shows her many talents beyond acting.
In 2024, Devery won the Radius Award at the 12th Canadian Screen Awards with Lamar Johnson. She also lent her voice to the character Alasie in Ark: The Animated Series. She recorded her lines for this show from her apartment in Toronto. She described the process as a bit "chaotic" but found the story "really beautiful."
Devery also voiced Kahhori in What If…? season 2. She enjoys voice acting because it allows her to be creative and "have fun with the role."

Devery Jacobs is a member of the Kanien'keha:ka (Mohawk) nation. She belongs to the Bear Clan. When she was acting in Rhymes for Young Ghouls, she was also a student at John Abbott College. She was studying correctional intervention at the time.
Devery works with Canadian filmmaker D. W. Waterson. They have a production company together called Night is Y.
