Devore is a small, unincorporated community located in Owen County, Indiana. It's found in the southwestern part of Taylor Township. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
Devore is about ten miles north of Spencer, which is the main town and county seat of Owen County. It sits at an elevation of 755 feet (230 meters) above sea level. This community is also known by another name: Mill Grove.
History of Devore
Devore was first known as Mill Grove. It was officially planned out in 1835 under this name. Later, a post office opened in Devore in 1893. This post office helped people send and receive mail. However, it closed down in 1904.
