Dewa 19 facts for kids

Dewa 19 (say 'Dewa Nineteen') is a famous rock band from Surabaya, Indonesia. Many people think they are one of the best rock bands ever in Indonesian music history!

The band started in 1986. Over the years, some members changed. They stopped playing together in 2011, but sometimes they still have reunion concerts! Their last main members were Ahmad Dhani (keyboard), Andra (guitar), Agung Yudha (drums), Yuke (bass guitar), and Once (singer).

Dewa 19 became very popular in the 1990s with singer Ari Lasso. They continued their success in the 2000s with Once as the vocalist. Their albums almost always sold very well. For example, their album Bintang Lima from 2000 sold nearly 2 million copies! This makes it one of the best-selling albums in Indonesian history.

In 2005, Hai magazine said Dewa 19 was the richest band in Indonesia. They earned a lot of money each year from their music.

Awards and Recognition

Dewa 19 has won many awards during their career. These include the BASF Awards and AMI Awards. They also received the LibForAll Award in the United States. This award was for their work in promoting peace and understanding between different religions.

In 2008, Rolling Stone magazine included Dewa 19 on their special list. They were named one of "The Immortals: The 25 Greatest Indonesian Artists of All Time." This shows how important and influential they are in music.
