Dewey Hughes met Petey Greene through his older brother, Milo. Later, Hughes hired Greene to work as a disc jockey at a radio station called WOL.

Hughes also worked as a co-producer and director for Petey Greene's TV talk show, Petey Greene's Washington. This show was on from 1976 to 1982. Petey Greene passed away on January 10, 1984.

Dewey Hughes and his wife at the time, Cathy Hughes, bought the WOL radio station in Washington. This station became the very first part of a large radio company called the Radio One Network. Hughes also won 12 Emmy Awards for his work as a producer and director for a TV channel connected to NBC.

Dewey Hughes was married to Cathy Hughes from 1979 to 1987. Today, he lives in Los Angeles, California. He spends his time writing and producing music there. He has a son named Michael Genet, who is an actor and also writes movie scripts.
