Dewhurst is a small town located in Clark County, in the state of Wisconsin, United States. In 2010, about 323 people lived there. An old, empty town called Trow used to be part of Dewhurst.
History of Dewhurst
The town of Dewhurst was first created on November 15, 1901. It was originally called "Mound." However, the town was later given a new name to honor Richard Dewhurst. He was a very important person who worked as a judge (a jurist) and helped make laws (a legislator). The first official town meeting was held in April 1902.
Where is Dewhurst Located?
Dewhurst is found in the southwestern part of Clark County. It shares its southern and western borders with Jackson County. The Black River flows through the southeastern corner of the town. This river is a tributary, meaning it flows into a larger river, the Mississippi River. The northern part of Lake Arbutus, which is a lake created by a dam on the river (called an impoundment), is also within the town.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the total area of Dewhurst is about 36.1 square miles (93.6 km2). Most of this area, about 35.3 square miles (91.3 km2), is land. The rest, about 0.89 square miles (2.3 km2) (or 2.44%), is water.

In 2000, there were 321 people living in Dewhurst. The town had about 156 households, which are groups of people living together in one home. Out of these, 97 were families.
The people living in Dewhurst were mostly White (about 88.47%). A smaller number were Native American (about 10.28%) or African American (about 0.93%). Some people were also from two or more different backgrounds. About 1.87% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
