Amos Dewon Day (born September 29, 1980) is a former American baseball player. He was a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB). A relief pitcher comes into the game after the starting pitcher.
Dewon Day was first chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays in the baseball draft. Later, the Chicago White Sox picked him in the Rule 5 draft in 2005. This special draft allows teams to pick players from other teams' minor league rosters.
Day played for the White Sox in 2007. He had two short times playing with the team that year. He also spent some time on the disabled list, which means he was injured and could not play. During his time with the White Sox, he played in 13 games. He had an ERA of 11.25. ERA is a statistic that shows how many earned runs a pitcher gives up per nine innings.
After the White Sox
After the 2008 baseball season, the Boston Red Sox picked up Dewon Day. This is called being "claimed off waivers." It means a team can pick up a player who has been released by another team.
Later, the Tampa Bay Rays also claimed him off waivers. However, the Rays organization eventually released him. On July 3, 2009, Day signed a contract to play in the minor leagues for the Oakland Athletics. In 2010, he played for the Newark Bears. This team was part of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, which is an independent baseball league.
Education
Dewon Day went to Southern University. This is a public university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Life After Baseball
Dewon Day now lives in New Jersey. He works as a Sales Representative for Nike Golf.
