Dhirendralal Dhar (born January 12, 1913, died September 20, 1991) was a famous writer from Bengal. He was especially known for writing amazing stories for young people. In 1979, he even won a special award called the Indian National Award for his great work in Children's literature. Many people knew him by his pen name, Shridhar Munshi.
Growing Up and Early Life
Dhirendralal Dhar was born in a city called Kolkata, which was part of British India at that time. He went to school at Ariya Mission Institution and later studied at Vidyasagar College. To earn a living, he worked as a journalist, writing for newspapers, and also as a teacher.
In 1928, when he was just 15 years old, Dhar became involved in important movements for India's freedom. He joined the Non-cooperation movement, which was a peaceful way for people to protest against British rule. He also joined the Indian National Congress, a big political party working for India's independence. Later, he became part of the youth group of Hindu Mahasabha.
His Writing Career
Dhirendralal Dhar's first book, Mrityur Poschate, was published in 1934. He became very popular for writing exciting stories, especially for children. His books often included:

He also wrote serious biographies about important Indian leaders like Subhaschandra Bose, Vidyasagar, and Dr. B.R. Ambdekar.
