Diana Lois Hendry (born October 2, 1941) is a famous English writer. She writes poems, short stories, and many books for children. She won a big award called the Whitbread Award in 1991. She was also nominated for this prize again in 2012.

Diana Hendry was born in a place called the Wirral in England. She was one of three children.

Before becoming a full-time writer, she worked as a journalist. This meant she wrote for newspapers and radio shows. She worked at The Western Mail newspaper in Cardiff for a few years.

When she was 39, she went to the University of Bristol to get a degree. Her professor's wife was the author Diana Wynne Jones. She saw Diana Hendry's writing and suggested she find a publisher. This helped her start her successful writing career. She also taught English at a boys' school. Later, she taught creative writing at the University of Bristol.

Diana Hendry has written over 40 books for children! One of her most famous is Harvey Angell. This book won the Whitbread Award in 1991. She also won first prize in a poetry competition in 1996. Her book The Seeing was inspired by her childhood memories of wartime. It was nominated for the Scottish Children's Book Award in 2013. She also writes for The Spectator magazine.

Diana Hendry lives in Edinburgh with her partner, Hamish Whyte. She has two children and three grandchildren. She enjoys doing yoga and playing the piano.
