Diana Claire Millay (born June 7, 1934 – died January 8, 2021) was an American actress. She was famous for her many roles on television. She appeared in almost 100 TV shows. She also had important roles on two popular daytime soap operas, Dark Shadows and The Secret Storm.

Becoming an Actress

Diana Millay was born in Rye, New York. She started her career very young as a model. First, she modeled for the Montgomery Ward catalogue as a child. Later, she became a top model for John Robert Powers.

Early Acting Days

Every summer while she was in high school, Diana performed in "summer stock" plays. These were theater productions that ran during the summer months. She played main roles in many classic plays. Some of these included Our Hearts Were Young and Gay and The Seven Year Itch. She acted in summer stock for seven seasons.

Broadway Stage

In 1957, Diana made her debut on Broadway, which is New York City's famous theater district. She starred in a play called Fair Game. She also appeared in other Broadway shows like Drink to Me Only and Boeing Boeing. She even toured the United States and Canada in The Seven Year Itch.

Her first movie role was in 1957. It was a film called Street of Sinners.

Television Roles

Diana Millay first appeared on television in a show called Star Tonight. One of her early TV jobs was being the timekeeper on Masquerade Party in 1956. She then appeared in many "live" TV shows. These were shows broadcast as they happened.

She was a guest star on popular shows like Robert Montgomery Presents and Studio One. She also appeared three times on the courtroom drama Perry Mason.

Later, she guest starred on many filmed TV shows. These included Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, and Gunsmoke. She also appeared on Bonanza, The Virginian, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. In 1962, she was even chosen as "Miss Emmy" because she was on so many prime-time TV shows.

Dark Shadows and The Secret Storm

In 1966, Diana got a big role on the ABC-TV show Dark Shadows. She played "Laura Collins" in 62 episodes. Her character was special because she was an immortal phoenix-woman. This meant she could burn in a fire and be reborn again. She even appeared in a movie based on the series, Night of Dark Shadows, in 1971.

In 1970, Diana joined another daytime soap opera, The Secret Storm. She played the character "Kitty Styles." This show allowed her to work again with people she knew from Dark Shadows.

Books and Personal Life

After her acting career, Diana Millay became a writer. She published several books. Some of her titles include I'd Rather Eat Than Act and How to Create Good Luck.

Diana was married to Broadway producer Geoffrey Jones. They had one son named Kiley Christopher. Diana Millay passed away in 2021 at the age of 86.
