Diane Carol Baker (born February 25, 1938) is an American actress, producer, and educator. She is known for her roles in many movies and TV shows.

Early Life and Education
Diane Baker was born on February 25, 1938, in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in the North Hollywood and Studio City areas. Her mother, Dorothy Helen Harrington, was an actress who appeared in some early Marx Brothers movies. Her father, Clyde Lucius Baker, sold cars. Diane has two younger sisters, Patricia and Cheryl.
After finishing Van Nuys High School in 1956, when she was 18, Diane moved to New York City. There, she studied acting with Charles Conrad and ballet with Nina Fonaroff.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting in Movies
Diane Baker began her film career in 1958 when she signed a seven-year contract with 20th Century Fox. Her first movie role was in 1959. Director George Stevens chose her to play Margot Frank in the film The Diary of Anne Frank.
In the same year, she also starred in Journey to the Center of the Earth. In this adventure film, she acted alongside James Mason and Pat Boone. She also appeared in The Best of Everything with Hope Lange and Joan Crawford.
More Film and TV Roles
Diane appeared in other Fox films, including Nine Hours to Rama and The 300 Spartans. She also started working in television in the 1960s. She was seen in shows like Follow the Sun, Bus Stop, and Route 66.
After her contract with Fox ended, Diane starred in Stolen Hours in 1963. That same year, she acted with Paul Newman in The Prize. From 1963 to 1966, she had a regular role in the medical drama Dr. Kildare.
In 1964, she worked with Joan Crawford again in the thriller Strait-Jacket. She also appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's film Marnie (1964). In Marnie, she played Lil Mainwaring, the sister-in-law of the character played by Sean Connery.

Diane co-starred with Gregory Peck in the thriller Mirage (1965). She also appeared in Krakatoa, East of Java (1969). In 1967, she was in the two-part finale of The Fugitive. This episode became one of the most-watched TV shows at the time.
In 1968, she starred with Dean Jones in the Disney film The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit. In 1973, Diane co-starred in the ABC sitcom Here We Go Again.
Later Roles and Producing
After Mirage, Diane continued to appear often on television. She also started producing films. She produced the drama film Never Never Land (1980). She also produced the miniseries A Woman of Substance (1985), where she played the character Laura.
In 1991, she returned to the big screen in The Silence of the Lambs. In this movie, she played Senator Ruth Martin. Diane also appeared in films like The Joy Luck Club, The Cable Guy, The Net, and A Mighty Wind. She also guest-starred in four episodes of the TV show House as Blythe House, the main character's mother.
Teaching Career
Diane Baker spent over ten years teaching acting. She taught at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She was also the executive director for the School of Motion Pictures-Television and the School of Acting at the university.
