Dick C.E. Davis, born on November 28, 1946, is a former American football player. He was a talented running back who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played for teams like the Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints. Before joining the NFL, he was picked by the Cleveland Browns in the 1969 NFL/AFL draft. He also played college football at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Growing Up and High School Sports
Dick C.E. Davis was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He went to Omaha North High School. There, he was a star in football, wrestling, and track. In football, he ran for an amazing 10.4 yards every time he carried the ball. He also set a record for the most touchdowns in a single game.
Davis was also a two-time state champion in wrestling. The Omaha World-Herald newspaper named him their athlete of the year. In 1999, he was honored by being added to the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.
College Football Career
Dick Davis played for the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He was part of the team from 1965 to 1968. He was a "letterman" for three years, from 1966 to 1968. This means he earned a special award for playing well.
In 1966, he ran for 154 yards and scored one touchdown. The next year, in 1967, he had a great season. He ran for 717 yards and scored another touchdown. He also caught 17 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown. Because of his excellent play, he was named first-team All-Big Eight.
In his final year, 1968, he ran for 606 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also caught seven passes. Dick Davis was also very good at his studies. He was named an Academic All-American twice. He earned a bachelor's degree from Nebraska. In 1995, he was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
Playing in the NFL
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns picked Dick Davis in the 12th round of the 1969 NFL/AFL draft. He was the 306th player chosen overall. However, he did not play in any games for the Browns during the 1969 season. He was moved to the team's "taxi squad."
Denver Broncos
On February 12, 1970, Davis signed with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos' coach, Lou Saban, had been interested in him since his college days. Davis played in two games for the Broncos in 1970. He was later released by the team.
New Orleans Saints
After leaving the Broncos, Dick Davis signed with the New Orleans Saints in November 1970. He played in four games for the Saints that season. He started two of those games. He ran for 94 yards and caught four passes for 29 yards. He was released by the Saints in 1971.
Life After Football
After his NFL career, Dick Davis continued his education. He earned a master's degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha. He also received a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
In 1980, he received a special award from the National Education Association. This award recognized his work as a principal in the Omaha Public Schools system. He also served on important state and national committees. These included Nebraska's Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.
Davis also became the CEO of Davis Companies. This is a family business that helps people with insurance and other services.
