Richard Feagler (born July 29, 1938 – died July 1, 2018) was a well-known American journalist, writer, and TV star from Cleveland, Ohio. He was famous for his newspaper columns and for hosting TV shows.

After studying at Ohio University, he began his career in journalism in 1963. He started by writing obituaries, which are articles about people who have passed away, for the Cleveland Press newspaper. In 1970, Dick Feagler began writing a regular column. This column was a special article that appeared often in the newspaper. He continued writing it until the Cleveland Press closed down in 1982.

Dick Feagler's Career Journey

After the Cleveland Press closed, Dick Feagler kept writing his popular column. It appeared in many other newspapers across Ohio. These included the Akron Beacon Journal, the Willoughby News-Herald, and the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

In 1993, his column also started appearing in The Plain Dealer, a major newspaper. Besides writing, Feagler was also a familiar face on television. He gave regular news comments for WKYC-TV and WEWS-TV.

Hosting TV Shows

Dick Feagler also hosted his own talk show called Feagler!. This happened when he briefly worked as a news anchor for TV-3's evening news from 1991 to 1993. Later, he hosted Feagler & Friends. This was a weekly half-hour discussion show on WVIZ, a public television station. He continued hosting this show until 2013.

Retirement and Later Years

Dick Feagler retired from The Plain Dealer newspaper. His very last column was published on Sunday, January 4, 2009. He then retired from WVIZ in September 2013. Dick Feagler passed away on July 1, 2018, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Awards and Special Recognitions

Dick Feagler received many important awards for his work. In 1991, he won the Peabody Award. He also received the DuPont-Columbia Award in the same year. These are very respected awards in journalism and broadcasting.

He won 23 local Emmy Awards, which recognize excellence in television. He also received awards from United Press International (UPI) and the Associated Press (AP). In 1994, Dick Feagler was honored by being added to the Press Club of Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame. This means his work was recognized as being very important and influential.

His Work on Stage

One of Dick Feagler’s most loved newspaper articles was called "Christmas at Aunt Ida’s." This story was so popular that it was turned into a play in 2006. The play was performed at the Huntington Playhouse in Bay Village, Ohio. It was so successful that it was brought back to the stage again in November 2007.

Many of Dick Feagler’s favorite columns were collected and published as books. Some of these collections include "Feagler's Cleveland" and "Did You Read Feagler Today?".
