Diego Sebastián Laxalt Suárez (born on February 7, 1993) is a professional football player from Uruguay. He plays as a defensive midfielder for the Russian club Dynamo Moscow and is also part of the Uruguay national team. For most of his career, he played as a left-back, which is a defender on the left side of the field. He started his football journey in the youth teams of Defensor Sporting in July 2012.

Diego Laxalt's Club Career
Starting at Defensor Sporting
Diego Laxalt was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He played his first professional game on September 1, 2012. This was for Defensor Sporting in a match they won 4–0 against Montevideo Wanderers. After playing in a big youth tournament in 2013, he returned to his club. He finished his first season having played 15 games and scoring 1 goal.
Time with Inter Milan
Inter Milan, a famous Italian club, bought Laxalt in January 2013. The deal was completed in July 2013. However, the coach at Inter Milan decided to loan him out. He spent the season playing for Bologna. After his loan, he was briefly with Inter Milan again. In August 2014, he was loaned to another Italian club, Empoli.
Playing for Genoa
On January 30, 2015, Laxalt joined Genoa on a loan deal that lasted 18 months. He scored his first two goals for Genoa on October 28, 2015, in an away game against Torino. On July 30, 2016, Laxalt officially joined Genoa permanently. He became an important player for the team.
Moving to AC Milan
On August 16, 2018, Laxalt moved to another big Italian club, AC Milan. He made his first game for AC Milan on August 25, 2018. He came on as a substitute in a league game against Napoli.
Loan to Torino and Return
In August 2019, Laxalt was loaned to Torino for a season. This was because other players were ahead of him in his position at AC Milan. In January 2020, he was called back to AC Milan to help the team. During his loan at Torino, he played 18 games.
Loan to Celtic
On October 5, 2020, Laxalt went on a season-long loan to the Scottish club Celtic. He played his first game for Celtic against Rangers. His next game was against his parent club, Milan, in the Europa League. He scored his first goal for Celtic on November 21, 2020, in a 2–2 draw against Hibernian. Laxalt won his first major trophy with Celtic when they won the 2020 Scottish Cup Final in a penalty shootout.
Joining Dynamo Moscow
On June 22, 2021, Dynamo Moscow announced that Laxalt had signed a three-year contract with them. His first two seasons at Dynamo had some challenges due to injuries.
In the 2023–24 season, Dynamo's new coach started playing Laxalt in a defensive midfielder role. Laxalt quickly became a fan favorite. He was voted player of the month by Dynamo fans in July and August 2023. On August 6, 2023, he helped Dynamo win an away game against Zenit Saint Petersburg by assisting the winning goal. This was a big win for Dynamo. On October 19, 2023, Laxalt extended his contract with Dynamo until June 2026.
Diego Laxalt's International Career
Playing for Uruguay's Youth Team
Diego Laxalt first played for the Uruguay U20 team in the 2013 South American Youth Championship in Argentina. He made his debut on January 10, 2013, in a 3–3 draw against Peru. Two days later, he scored his first goal in a 3–2 win against Brazil. Uruguay finished second in their group.
On February 3, Uruguay qualified for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey. Laxalt played in all the games and was even chosen as one of the best players of the tournament.
At the FIFA U-20 World Cup
Laxalt was part of the squad for the 2013 FIFA U–20 World Cup. He played his first game on June 2, 2013, against Croatia. Uruguay won their next two group games against New Zealand and Uzbekistan. They finished second in their group and moved to the next round. In the second round, Uruguay beat Nigeria 2–1. They reached the quarter-finals against Spain, which went into extra time.
Playing for the Senior National Team
Laxalt was called up to the senior Uruguay squad in 2016. He made his full debut against Ireland on June 4, 2017. In May 2018, he was chosen for Uruguay's team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He also played in the 2019 Copa América.

Laxalt is a left-footed player who is known for being strong and able to play in different positions. He has said that his main strengths are his speed and how long he can keep running. He is a midfielder who can also play in other roles on the field.
