Klaus Dieter Laser (born February 17, 1942 – died February 29, 2020) was a German actor. He had a long career that lasted over 50 years. He acted in movies and TV shows made in both Germany and English-speaking countries.

Dieter Laser became well-known for his main role in the 2009 horror film The Human Centipede (First Sequence). He also appeared in the third movie of the series in 2015. On television, he played a regular character named Mantrid in the science fiction show Lexx from 1998 to 2000.

Early Life and Acting Career

Dieter Laser was born in Kiel, Germany. He started his acting journey in 1968. He became known to audiences who spoke English for his roles in different projects. These included Mantrid in Lexx and Professor Otto Blaettchen in The Ogre. He also played Dr. Josef Heiter in The Human Centipede (First Sequence) and Bill Boss in The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence).

In 1975, Dieter Laser won a major award in Germany. He received the German Film Award in Gold for Best Actor. This was for his leading role in the movie John Glückstadt.

Working on The Human Centipede

When filming The Human Centipede, many people on set noticed Dieter Laser's acting style. He was known as a method actor. This means he tried to stay in character as much as possible, even when not filming. He often did not talk much to other actors on set.

The director, Tom Six, chose Laser for the role because he was very impressed with his earlier work. For his performance in the film, Laser won the Best Actor award at the Austin Fantastic Fest. He was also nominated for the LA Scream Awards for Best Villain in 2010. Even though he first said no, he later agreed to return for the final movie in the series.

Laser also starred in an Estonian fantasy film called November. This movie was filmed in November 2015.

Dieter Laser passed away on February 29, 2020, just twelve days after his 78th birthday. His death was not announced right away. The news was shared on his official Facebook page on April 9, 2020.
