Who Was Saint Digain?

Digain was born around the year 429. He was the son of Constantine Corneu, who was the King of Dumnonia. This means Digain was a prince!

He had three brothers named Erbin, Meirchion, and Drustan. Erbin also became a saint. Digain might have had a sister too, but her name is not known.

Why Is Digain a Saint?

Saint Digain is remembered for founding a church in Llangernyw, a place in Conwy county, Wales. The name "Llangernyw" actually means "the church of the Cornishman," which refers to Digain.

This church was built right next to a very old yew tree, known as the Llangernyw yew. This tree is still there today and is incredibly ancient!

Digain became a saint because he was a "confessor." This means he showed great virtue and openly shared his Christian faith. He did this through his writings and teachings. His special day, or feast day, is celebrated every year on November 21.
