Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Dillon Falls is a small place in Muskingum County, Ohio. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

A Glimpse into the Past: Dillon Falls History

Dillon Falls got its name from a man named Moses Dillon. He was one of the first people to settle here. The "falls" in the name refer to the rapids in the Licking River. These rapids are like small waterfalls where the river flows quickly over rocks.

For a while, the place was just called Dillon. A post office opened there in 1887. It helped people send and receive letters and packages. This post office stayed open for about 21 years, closing in 1908.

Besides the post office, Dillon Falls also had a station for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Railroads were very important back then for travel and moving goods. Having a train station meant people and products could easily come to and go from Dillon Falls.
