Dillon Thomas's Baseball Journey
Dillon Thomas finished high school at Westbury Christian School in 2011. After that, he began his professional baseball career.
Starting with the Colorado Rockies
The Colorado Rockies picked Dillon in the 4th round of the 2011 MLB draft. This was a big step for him. He started playing professionally with the Casper Ghosts in 2011. He played well, hitting for a good average.
Over the next few years, Dillon played for several minor league teams within the Rockies organization. These included the Tri-City Dust Devils, Asheville Tourists, Modesto Nuts, and Hartford Yard Goats. He kept improving his skills, hitting more home runs and getting more RBIs. By 2017, he reached the Triple-A level with the Albuquerque Isotopes. After that season, he became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.
Playing Independent Baseball
In 2018, Dillon joined the Texas AirHogs. This team is part of an independent league, which means it's not connected to Major League Baseball teams. He had a fantastic season there. He was even named the American Association Player of the Month in July. He finished the season as an All-Star, showing off his strong batting and power.
Moving to the Milwaukee Brewers
Because of his great performance, the Milwaukee Brewers bought Dillon's contract in August 2018. He played for their High-A team, the Carolina Mudcats. In 2019, he played for the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers. He had his best year yet for home runs and RBI, earning another All-Star spot. In November 2019, he became a free agent again.
Joining the Oakland Athletics
Dillon signed a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics in December 2019. He was invited to their Spring Training. However, he didn't play in any games in 2020. This was because the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He became a free agent once more in November 2020.
Major League Baseball Debut with the Mariners
In January 2021, Dillon signed with the Seattle Mariners. He started the year with their Triple-A team, the Tacoma Rainiers. He played very well there, hitting for a high average and showing power.
His hard work paid off! On June 8, 2021, Dillon was called up to the major leagues for the first time. He made his MLB debut the very next day against the Detroit Tigers. In that game, he got his first career hit, which helped the Mariners win. Later that year, the Mariners decided to make some roster changes, and Dillon moved back to Triple-A.
Time with the Los Angeles Angels
Dillon signed with the Los Angeles Angels in December 2021. He was called up to the Angels' major league team in June 2022. He played in one game for them before moving on.
Brief Stint with the Houston Astros
In June 2022, the Houston Astros picked up Dillon. He played a few games for their Triple-A team, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. He even hit a home run for them. Soon after, he moved back to the Angels.
Returning to the Los Angeles Angels
Dillon returned to the Los Angeles Angels in June 2022. He spent the rest of the year with their Triple-A team, the Salt Lake Bees. He had a strong season there, hitting 17 home runs and getting 77 RBI. In October 2022, he became a free agent again.
Playing for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks
In April 2023, Dillon signed with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. This was another independent league team. He played very well for them, showing his strong batting skills.
Playing in Mexico
In June 2023, Dillon's contract was bought by the Guerreros de Oaxaca in the Mexican League. He played for them for a short time. He then returned to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in August 2023. After the American Association season ended, he went back to the Guerreros de Oaxaca. He played a couple of games for them in 2024 before being released in April.
