The Children of Dilsia

Family stories from Walter Francis White say that when William Henry Harrison decided to run for president, he thought it would not help his election chances to have these children living in his home.

Because of this, Harrison gave four of Dilsia's children to his brother. His brother then arranged for these children to live with Joseph Poythress. Mr. Poythress was one of the first white settlers in LaGrange, Georgia.

Marie Harrison's Story

Marie Harrison was one of Dilsia's daughters. It is believed that William Henry Harrison was her father. Marie Harrison later became the grandmother of the famous civil rights activist, Walter Francis White.
