Dimmick is a small place in LaSalle County, Illinois. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a town or village that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, it's usually managed by the county or a larger township.
Dimmick is located about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of a city called Peru. It is part of Dimmick Township. In recent years, more people have moved to Dimmick. A new neighborhood called "Dimmick Fields" has been built there.
History of Dimmick
Dimmick was named after its founder, Daniel Dimmick. He moved to this area in 1833 from Mansfield, Connecticut, after first living in Hennepin, Illinois.
Around 1865, the Illinois Central Railroad built train tracks that reached Dimmick. This was a big step for the community. In 1873, a train station, also called a depot, was built. It replaced an older one that was no longer in good shape. Around the same time, the town was "platted." This means its streets and building lots were officially mapped out.
By 1876, Dimmick had grown. It had three stores where people could buy things. There was also a blacksmith, who was a person who made and repaired things out of metal. A post office opened in Dimmick in 1877. It helped people send and receive mail until it closed in 1912. Train service for passengers continued in Dimmick until the early 1930s, when it was stopped.
