Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Crystal Smith, known by her stage name Dimples D., is an American rapper. She became famous for one big hit song in 1990.

Her Hit Song: "Sucker DJ"

Dimples D. was chosen to sing on a song called "Sucker DJ's (I Will Survive)". This song was created by a hip hop producer named Marley Marl in 1983.

The song was a kind of "answer song" to another popular rap song by Run–D.M.C. called "Sucker M.C.s". When it first came out, "Sucker DJ's" did not sell many copies.

However, in 1990, a DJ named Ben Liebrand reworked the song. He added a famous sound clip from the TV show I Dream of Jeannie. After this new version was released, the song became a huge success! It went to number one in Australia and reached number 17 in the UK Singles Chart. It also became popular in many countries across Europe.
