Dinkar Gangadhar Kelkar (born January 10, 1896 – died March 17, 1990) was an Indian writer, editor, and historian. He was also a passionate collector of art and old objects. He is most famous for starting the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum in Pune, India.

About Dinkar Kelkar
Dinkar Kelkar was born on January 10, 1896. His family lived in a place called Kasarveli in Ratnagiri, India. He was the youngest of four sons. His parents were Gangadhar and Uma Kelkar.
His Early Life and Work
From 1915, Dinkar Kelkar started writing and publishing poetry books. These books were called Adnyatvasi, which means Anonymous. Later, in the 1950s, these poems were even used as study material. They were part of the Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Bombay.
He also helped edit poems by other famous writers. In 1935, he edited some poems by Bhaskar Ramchandra Tambe. He also edited a poem called Zenduchi Phule by Pralhad Keshav Atre. Besides writing and editing, he helped start the Sharda Mandir High School in Mumbai.
Starting a Museum
In the 1920s, Dinkar Kelkar began collecting many different historical items. He collected old photographs, books, and paintings. He also gathered carvings, textiles, and old manuscripts. His collection grew to include almanacs, toys, and puppets. He even collected old letters, scrolls, and weapons. Musical instruments, carpets, and metal artworks were also part of his collection.
He created the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum in Pune to show all these amazing things. He named the museum after his son, Raja, who had passed away. Dinkar Kelkar was the director of this museum for many years. In April 1985, the Government of Maharashtra took over managing the museum.
Awards and Recognition
In 1978, Dinkar Kelkar received a special degree. It was a Doctor of Literature and Philosophy from the University of Pune. He was also a member of the Indian Institute of Architects.
In 1981, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri award. This award was given for his important work in the field of Science & Engineering. He also received an award from the Indian Centre for Excellence. For a short time, he worked as the main curator at the Salar Jung Museum in Hyderabad.
Dinkar Kelkar passed away on March 17, 1990. He was married to Kamala. They had a daughter named Jayaprabha and a son named Raja. Raja was born in 1932 and died in 1941.
