Dinsmore is a small, quiet community in California. It is not an official town, but a place where people live and work. You can find it right next to the Van Duzen River.

This community sits at an elevation of about 736 meters (2,415 feet) above sea level. Nearby, you'll find the Dinsmore Airport and the Dinsmore Store. Other close places include the Mad River, Ruth, California, and Ruth Reservoir. The reservoir is actually located in Trinity County.

History of Dinsmore's Economy

For a long time, Dinsmore's economy focused on two main things: tourism and logging. Logging means cutting down trees for wood.

The Dinsmore Lodge

In the early 1900s, the Dinsmore Lodge was a very popular spot. Many people came here for summer vacations. After World War II, fewer people visited the lodge.

In the early 1970s, the lodge was fixed up. At that time, it was used as affordable housing. Employees from a nearby sawmill, owned by the Louisiana Pacific Corporation, lived there.

Changes in the Logging Industry

However, the sawmill closed down in 1977. This was a big change for Dinsmore. The community struggled after the sawmill shut its doors.

Climate in Dinsmore

Dinsmore has a special kind of weather. The summers are warm and dry, but they don't get extremely hot. The average monthly temperature never goes above 22 degrees Celsius (71.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Understanding the Climate Type

According to a system called Köppen Climate Classification, Dinsmore has a "warm-summer Mediterranean climate." On climate maps, this is often shown as "Csb." This type of climate is common in places like parts of California and around the Mediterranean Sea. It means the area has dry, warm summers and mild, wet winters.
