Diosdado "Dado" Madarang Peralta (born March 27, 1952) is a Filipino lawyer and judge. He held a very important position as the Chief Justice of the Philippines from 2019 to 2021. Before that, he was an Associate Justice in the same court for many years. He was also a top judge at the Sandiganbayan, a special court in the Philippines.

Early Life and Education
Diosdado Peralta was born on March 27, 1952. He studied at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974. Later, he went to the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law to study law. He finished his law degree in 1979.
He is married to Fernanda Lampas-Peralta. She is also a judge, serving as an Associate Justice in the Philippine Court of Appeals.
His Journey as a Judge
Starting His Legal Career
Before becoming a judge, Diosdado Peralta worked as a lawyer in private companies. He then joined the government. He served as an assistant city prosecutor in Laoag City and Manila. A prosecutor is a lawyer who works for the government to bring legal cases against people accused of crimes.
Becoming a Judge
On September 22, 1994, Peralta became a judge for the Regional Trial Court in Quezon City. This court handles many different types of legal cases.
In March 2008, he was chosen to be the Presiding Justice of the Sandiganbayan. This is a special court that deals with cases involving government officials. He held this position until he was appointed to the Supreme Court.
Justice Peralta also helped create important rules for how judges should apply laws. He was also part of a group that looked into election disputes for the House of Representatives. In 2014, he led the committee that prepared the Philippine Bar Examination. This is a very difficult test that all lawyers must pass to practice law in the Philippines.
Serving as Chief Justice
On October 23, 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Diosdado Peralta as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. This is the highest judicial position in the country. He took over from Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin.
In December 2020, Chief Justice Peralta announced that he would retire early, on March 27, 2021. This was a year before he was required to retire. After his retirement, Alexander Gesmundo became the new Chief Justice.
Awards and Recognition
Diosdado Peralta has received many awards for his work in law.
- In 2001, he received special awards in Criminal Law from the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the Supreme Court.
- In 2002, he won the Judicial Excellence Awards. This award recognized him as an outstanding Regional Trial Court Judge.
- In 2008, the University of Santo Tomas gave him the Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Award for Law. This is the highest award given by the university to its former students.
