Disney's My Son Pinocchio: Geppetto's Musical Tale is a fun musical play. It is based on a Disney TV movie from 2000 called Geppetto. This musical tells the classic story of Pinocchio from the point of view of his creator, Geppetto. The songs and music were written by Stephen Schwartz.
In the story, Pinocchio runs away to join a puppet show. Geppetto, his father, goes on an exciting journey to find him. He meets many interesting characters and has funny adventures along the way. The musical first opened in 2006 in Kansas City, Missouri, under a different name: Disney's Geppetto & Son.
Creating the Musical
The idea for Disney's My Son Pinocchio came after the TV movie Geppetto was finished in 2000. David Stern and Stephen Schwartz worked together on that film. A few years later, they thought it would be great to turn the story into a stage musical for young audiences.
Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music and lyrics, felt this show was special. He said it was "entertaining" and also taught important lessons. These lessons include being yourself, feeling good about who you are, and understanding the relationship between parents and children. Schwartz has also worked on other popular shows for young people. These include Disney's Pocahontas, Godspell, Children of Eden, and the famous Broadway show Wicked.
Today, a company called MTI helps schools and theater groups perform this musical. They even have a special "Junior" version. This version is made for younger kids to perform.
Songs in the Musical
Most of the songs in Disney's My Son Pinocchio come from the original movie soundtrack. However, the musical play also adds a few brand new songs.
