Bernie Michael, also known as Dixie Peach, is a British radio DJ and musician. He is famous for his work on different radio stations and for his unique way of introducing songs.
Early Radio Days
Dixie Peach was one of the first DJs on Radio Caroline when it started again on August 20, 1983. He used his skills as a backing singer to introduce songs. He would blend his voice right into the music, making a smooth transition.
Joining BBC Radio 1
In 1984, Peach joined BBC Radio 1, a very popular radio station in the UK. He hosted a Saturday evening show called Midnight Runner. This show focused on American-style rock and funk music.
Dixie Peach was a pioneer at Radio 1. He was the third black radio DJ to work there. Before him, only Al Matthews and Ranking Miss P had held similar roles. On television, he also hosted episodes of the famous music show Top of the Pops.
Later Career
Dixie Peach left Radio 1 in 1987. In 1991, he joined a station called CNFM where he hosted the morning show. He left CNFM in late 1992.
After that, he moved to BFBS Radio. There, he presented a show called Music Choice Europe. Dixie Peach is a big music fan. He has even recorded backing vocals for famous musicians like Elton John and Hall & Oates.
