BBC Radio 1 is a popular radio station in the United Kingdom. It is owned by the BBC, which is a big public broadcaster. This station mainly plays modern pop and the latest chart hits during the day.
At night, Radio 1 plays different kinds of music. These include electronic, dance, hip hop, and indie music. Radio 1 also has two online stations: Radio 1 Dance for dance music and Radio 1 Relax for chill-out music. You can listen to these on BBC Sounds.
Radio 1 started broadcasting in 1967. It was created because many people wanted more music, especially after pirate radio stations became popular. These pirate stations played music from ships or offshore platforms. The BBC says Radio 1 is for young people aged 15 to 29. Since 1991, Radio 1 has been on air 24 hours a day.
