Diyet van Lieshout is a talented Canadian singer-songwriter from the Yukon. She performs her own music both as a solo artist and with her band, Diyet and the Love Soldiers. She is well-known for winning the Indigenous Songwriter of the Year award at the 15th Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Early Life and Heritage
Diyet has a rich family background. Her ancestors are Japanese, Scottish, Tlingit, and Southern Tutchone. She grew up in the beautiful Kluane Lake area of the Yukon. Diyet is also a member of the Kluane First Nation. Later in life, while traveling in Europe, she met her husband, Robert van Lieshout. Robert is the guitarist in her band, Diyet and the Love Soldiers.
Her Musical Journey
Diyet began her music career by releasing her first album, The Breaking Point, in 2010. Three years later, in 2013, she released her second album, When You Were King.
Albums and Band Work
In 2018, Diyet released an album titled Diyet and the Love Soldiers. This was the first time an album was credited to her full band, not just to her as a solo artist. To share their new music, Diyet and the Love Soldiers performed many concerts. These shows were some of their first big performances outside of the Yukon.
Awards and Recognition
Diyet van Lieshout has received important awards for her music. She won the Indigenous Songwriter of the Year award at the 15th Canadian Folk Music Awards. This award celebrates her skill in writing songs that reflect her heritage and experiences.
