Dizzie Tunes was a super popular Norwegian music and comedy group from the city of Skien. They were one of the most successful entertainment groups in Norway for many years!

The Story of Dizzie Tunes

The group started as a dance band called Rex Band in 1959. They changed their name to Dizzie Tunes in 1962. The group performed together until 2002.

The main members of Dizzie Tunes were:

  • Yngvar Numme
  • Svein-Helge Høgberg
  • Øyvind Klingberg
  • Tor Erik Gunstrøm
  • Einar Idland

Their first song, "Mette Mette Mette," came out in 1963. Their first music album, also called Dizzie Tunes, was released in 1967.

Live Shows and Comedy

Dizzie Tunes was famous for their fun live shows, called "revues." Their first big show was Å, så heldig vi er in 1966 at Chat Noir in Oslo. Famous singer Wenche Myhre was a guest star in this show.

Later, in 1972, singer and actress Grethe Kausland joined their show På scenekanten. She became a regular performer with the group.

A big part of their shows was the comedy routines. Yngvar Numme and Tor Erik Gunstrøm were a hilarious duo. Numme would try to teach or direct Gunstrøm in different performances. Gunstrøm would often mess things up in a funny way, making the audience laugh a lot!

Awards and TV Shows

Dizzie Tunes won many awards for their amazing work.

  • They won the Spellemannprisen award in 1973 for their children's album Den aller siste ra-ta-ta-ta. This is a very important music award in Norway.
  • Their TV show Sim Sala Bim from 1973 won the Bronze Rose at the Rose d'Or festival in Montreux. This is a big international award for TV entertainment.
  • They even made a movie called Tut og kjør in 1975.

The group also received several special awards:

  • The Snill Gutt statuette in 1988.
  • The Swedish Lisebergapplåden in 1991.
  • The Jens Book-Jenssen's prize in 1993.
  • The Leonard Statuette in 1993.

In 1999, a square in their hometown of Skien was named "Dizzie Tunes plass" to honor them.
