Djuki Mala, also known as the Chooky Dancers, are a super cool dance group from Elcho Island in the Northern Territory of Australia. They became famous thanks to a YouTube video. In the video, they performed a fun dance called "Zorba the Greek" while wearing their special traditional clothes.
How Djuki Mala Became Famous
Djuki Mala first got a lot of attention in 2007. A lady named Margaret Nyungunyungu recorded them dancing in Darwin. One of the dancers was her son, Lionel Dulmanawy Garawirrtja. He actually came up with the dance routine! He wanted to honor his sister's carer, a kind Greek lady named Liliane. This special video quickly went viral. By June 2017, it had been watched over 2.7 million times!

The Djuki Mala group has had many talented dancers over the years. Some well-known members include Baker Boy and Baykali Ganambarr. Other dancers have included Yalyalwuy Gondarra, Gadidjirrimiwuy Dhamarrandji, Bapadjambang Atu, Lionel Dulmanawy Garawirrtja, Mitchell Rang Garawirrtja, Wakara Gondarra, Marko Garmu, Wattjar Garmu, and Tibian Cristopher Wyles. The group is led by their director, Joshua Bond.
