Doc Powell's Musical Journey

Doc Powell is a talented musician. He has worked with many famous artists. He was chosen by Wilson Pickett to be his musical director. This means he helped guide the music for Pickett's performances.

Powell also worked as the musical director for Luther Vandross for over ten years. He has played with other big names in music. These include Stevie Wonder, Bob James, Grover Washington, Jr., Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, and Teddy Pendergrass.

His first album was called Love Is Where It's At. It came out in 1987. A song from this album, his cover of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On", was nominated for a Grammy Award. This was for Best R&B Instrumental.

Doc Powell also helped create music for movies. He worked on the films The Five Heartbeats and Down and Out in Beverly Hills.
