Doctor Dolittle's Return is an exciting adventure book by Hugh Lofting. It came out in 1933 and is the ninth story in the popular Doctor Dolittle series. This book picks up right after the events of Doctor Dolittle in the Moon, which was published five years earlier. Even though Hugh Lofting first planned for the series to end with the moon adventure, he decided to write this new story.
What's the Story About?
This book tells the amazing tale of how Doctor Dolittle finally comes back home from the moon. It's a journey filled with challenges and surprises.
The Doctor's Return
The first part of the book focuses on what happens before the Doctor's return. We learn about Tommy Stubbins, who is the Doctor's young assistant. We also see how the Doctor's animal family in England is waiting for him. The story also explains how Doctor Dolittle managed to escape from the moon.
A Quest for Quiet Time
The second part of the book follows Doctor Dolittle as he tries to find a peaceful place. He wants to write a very important book about his adventures on the moon. He also wants to share all the amazing things he learned there.
However, finding peace is harder than it sounds! His animal patients keep needing his help. This makes it almost impossible for him to finish his writing project. The Doctor even tries to get himself put in jail. He hopes that being in a quiet cell will finally give him the time he needs to write his book.
