Dodge is a small place in eastern Walker County, Texas, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Dodge is located on the northern edge of the Sam Houston National Forest. You can find it along FM 405, east of Huntsville. Huntsville is the main town, or county seat, of Walker County. Dodge is about 400 feet (122 meters) above sea level. Even though it's unincorporated, Dodge has its own post office with the ZIP code 77334. In 2000, about 184 people lived in the area covered by this ZIP code.
History of Dodge
People first started settling in the Dodge area in the 1820s. The community of Dodge itself was officially started much later, in 1872. It was founded by William H. Parmer. Dodge grew up around a train station called Dodge Station. This station was part of the Houston and Great Northern Railroad. The community was named after Phelps Dodge, the company that built the railroad and the station. Dodge got its own post office in 1881. For many years, Dodge was a busy and growing place. However, its growth slowed down and it began to decline when the Great Depression happened.
