Dolores Johnson Sastre (born in 1969), also known as Lola Johnson, is a Spanish politician and journalist. She has served as a councilor for the Generalitat Valenciana (the government of the Valencian Community in Spain). She was part of the People's Party (PP) governments led by presidents Francisco Camps and Alberto Fabra.

Early Life and Career

Dolores Johnson Sastre was born in Valencia, Spain. Her mother was Valencian, and her father was from Equatorial Guinea. She studied law at the University of Valencia. After finishing her studies, she started working in media.

In 1994, she became a presenter for a Spanish TV show called En primera persona on the channel Nou. Two years later, Johnson joined the Valencian branch of RTVE, a major Spanish public broadcasting company. There, she presented the weather and worked as a production editor. Later, she became a news presenter. In 2002, she became the editor of Canal 37, a TV station in Alicante. She also started her own production company.

Working in Valencian Television

In September 2003, Lola Johnson was named the assistant director of Nou, a public television channel in the Valencian Community.

When Francisco Camps became the head of the Generalitat in 2004, Johnson returned to Valencia. She was appointed director of Punt 2, which was the second public television channel in the region. During this time, she also directed and presented a cultural program called Encontres. This show was broadcast in the Valencian language on the same channel.

In late 2007, after Camps was re-elected, Johnson became the news director of Radiotelevisió Valenciana (RTVV). She held this important position when a major political case, known as the Gürtel case, became public. In November 2009, Johnson was promoted again. She became the director of Televisión Valenciana, which brought together all the public television stations in the region.

Becoming a Government Official

In June 2011, Lola Johnson took a big step into politics. President Camps appointed her as the Councilor of Tourism, Culture, and Sports for the Generalitat Valenciana. She also became the Spokesperson for the Council of the Generalitat Valenciana. This meant she was the official voice of the government.

This appointment was historic because she became the first woman of Afro-European descent to be part of the Valencian government. At this time, she left her job at RTVV.

A month later, in July 2011, President Camps resigned. The new president, Alberto Fabra, decided to keep Johnson in her roles as councilor and spokesperson.

On December 5, 2011, Johnson spoke in the Cortes Generales (the Spanish Parliament). She confirmed that the Valencian government planned to sell the Ciudad de la Luz. These were film studios created by the famous filmmaker Luis García Berlanga.

On December 7, 2011, President Fabra announced that Johnson would no longer be the spokesperson. She was replaced by José Císcar [es]. However, Johnson continued to serve as the Councilor of Tourism, Culture, and Sports.

On December 20, 2012, Johnson received a new role within the People's Party. She was appointed executive secretary for the coordination of study commissions. This was a new position created within the party's structure.
