Dolphin Island: A Story of the People of the Sea is an exciting adventure novel written by Arthur C. Clarke. It was first published in 1963.
The Story of Dolphin Island
The story begins in the future. A brave teenager named Johnny Clinton sneaks onto a huge cargo hovership. This ship is flying across the United States. Suddenly, the hovership has an emergency and crashes into the Pacific Ocean.
The crew gets into lifeboats and leaves the ship. But Johnny is a stowaway, so he is left behind in the ocean. Luckily, his life is saved by amazing creatures called the "People of the Sea"—dolphins! A group of these smart dolphins guides Johnny to a secret island. This island is located near Australia's famous Great Barrier Reef.
On the island, Johnny discovers a special research community. Here, a brilliant professor is trying to talk with dolphins. Johnny quickly learns how to skindive. He also survives a powerful typhoon. Right after the storm, Johnny bravely risks his life again. He goes for help to get medicine for the people on the island.
