Dominique Demers (born November 23, 1956) is a talented Canadian writer. She writes many popular books, especially for children and young people. You might know her best for her exciting Mlle Charlotte book series. She even has a special degree called a PhD in children's literature. This means she studied a lot about books written for kids!

About Dominique Demers
Dominique Demers was born in Hawkesbury, Ontario. When she was 17, she moved to Montreal. There, she went to McGill University. She studied children's literature, which is all about books for young readers.
She continued her studies at the University of Québec. Later, she earned her highest degree, a doctorate, from Université de Sherbrooke. All her studies focused on children's books and media. She even helped with a special study about kids and media at the Université de Montréal. For a while, she also taught at Collège Charles-Lemoyne.
Her Start as a Journalist
For 15 years, Dominique Demers worked as a journalist. She wrote for important magazines and newspapers. These included L'actualité, Châtelaine, and Le Devoir. Her excellent writing earned her the Judith-Jasmin Award in 1987.
Writing Books for Kids
In 1991, Dominique Demers wrote her very first novel. It was a children's book called Dominique Picotée. This book was the start of her "Alexis" series. The stories in this series were inspired by her own three children: Simon, Alexis, and Marie.
Books on the Big Screen
Many of Dominique Demers's books have been turned into movies and TV shows!
- Her book Marie-Tempête became a TV movie in 1998. It was called Un hiver de tourmente.
- Two other novels, La nouvelle Maîtresse and La Mystérieuse Bibliothécaire, became a film in 2002. This movie was titled The Mysterious Miss C. (La mystérieuse mademoiselle C.). Dominique Demers herself wrote the movie's script!
- A sequel movie followed in 2004. It was called The Incomparable Miss C. (L'incomparable mademoiselle C.). This film was based on her books Une bien curieuse factrice and Une drôle de ministre.
- There have also been plans to make her book Maïna into a movie.
Hosting a Children's Show
Dominique Demers also hosted a children's TV show. It was for Radio-Canada and called Dominique raconte.... On the show, she read about 150 different books to young viewers. The show ran for three seasons.
Awards and Honors
Dominique Demers has received many special honors for her work.
- In 1997, the Université de Sherbrooke named her an Ambassador.
- In 2003, she was the first writer to be honored by the Université du Québec à Montreal.
- She received the prestigious Order of Canada in 2004. This is one of the highest honors a Canadian can receive!
- She was also nominated several times for the Governor General's Award. This award celebrates excellence in Canadian literature.
Dominique Demers lives in Montreal with her husband. She also spends time writing in the beautiful Laurentides region.
