Donald Allan Ashby (born March 8, 1955 – died May 30, 1981) was a talented Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played as a centre in the National Hockey League (NHL) for six seasons, from 1975 until 1981.

Donald Ashby's Hockey Journey
Donald Ashby was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. He grew up playing ice hockey and became a professional athlete. During his time in the NHL, he played for three different teams: the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Colorado Rockies, and the Edmonton Oilers.
The Toronto Maple Leafs chose him as the sixth overall player in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. This was a very important moment in his career.
Playing in the NHL
Donald Ashby played in 188 NHL games during his career. He scored 40 goals and made 56 assists, which added up to 96 points. He was known for his skills as a centre.
He also played in other leagues, like the CHL and the AHL, often with teams connected to his NHL clubs. For example, he played for the Wichita Wind in the CHL during his last season.

Donald was married to Terry. They shared their lives until his passing in 1981.
A Sad Accident
On May 30, 1981, just a few days after his hockey season ended, Donald and his wife, Terry, were in a car accident. This happened in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia.
Donald was seriously hurt in the accident and later passed away at a hospital in Kelowna, British Columbia. He was 26 years old. His wife, Terry, was also injured but thankfully survived the accident and received treatment. Donald's funeral was held a few days later, on June 3.
