John Donald Fuqua, born on August 20, 1933, is a former American politician. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Fuqua represented the state of Florida in the United States House of Representatives. He served there for many years, from 1963 to 1987.

Early Life and Education

Don Fuqua was born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1933. His parents were John D and Lucille Fuqua. He also had two brothers, Harry and Kenneth. Don attended the University of Florida. He studied there from 1951 to 1953.

After serving in the Korean War, he returned to the university. He graduated in 1957. Before joining the U.S. Congress, Fuqua served in the Florida House of Representatives. He was a state representative from 1958 to 1962.

A Career in Politics

Don Fuqua was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served as a representative for Florida. His time in Congress lasted from January 3, 1963, to January 3, 1987. During his time, he was a leader in important areas.

Fuqua became the chairman of the House Science and Technology Committee. This committee helps decide how the U.S. government supports science and space exploration.

He was also one of the few people still living who voted on the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This was a very important law. It helped end unfair treatment based on race.
