Donald Culliver was the mayor of Mansfield, Ohio, from 2007 to 2011. He made history as the first African-American person elected mayor of Mansfield. Before becoming mayor, he also worked for the city council for 20 years.

Early Life and Education
Donald Culliver grew up in Mansfield, Ohio. He graduated from Malabar High School. After high school, he became a skilled worker in a trade.
Becoming Mayor of Mansfield
In 2007, Donald Culliver decided to run for mayor of Mansfield. This was his first time running for a public office. He won the election with 41% of the votes. He became the mayor on December 1, 2007.
Helping Education in Mansfield
When he was campaigning, Mayor Culliver wanted to get the community more involved in schools. He believed this would help create a better learning environment. In November 2008, he started the Mayor's Education Task Force. This was a group of volunteers dedicated to helping local schools.
Supporting a Future President
On February 25, 2008, Mayor Culliver supported Illinois Senator Barack Obama for president. He said that America needed a leader who focused on the future.
Working to Save Jobs
In 2009, Mayor Culliver worked with local businesses and state leaders. They tried to keep the General Motors car plant in Mansfield open. This effort was called "Mansfield Makes Sense for the New GM." Sadly, despite their hard work, the plant closed on July 31, 2009.
End of Mayoral Term
Mayor Culliver's term ended on November 8, 2011. Timothy Theaker became the new mayor.
The Culliver Reading Center
In 1992, a special library and learning center opened in Mansfield. It was named the Culliver Reading Center. This center helped people learn and read. It operated until September 2020. It closed because of money problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
